A sense of proportion

Quite apart from the dubious merits of its typography, I’ve been a bit perturbed by the rather heavy-handed use of the new BBC Studios logo in the closing credits of TV programmes since its introduction earlier this year.

Here it is at the end of Gardeners’ World:

As well as the somewhat lumpen presence of the BBC Studios logo, the Albert sustainable production logo just seems to have been added as an afterthought.

Now consider how all the same content elements — broadcaster and production company logos, Albert logo, and copyright notice — have been presented in a far more balanced and structured way at the end of Grand Designs:

Despite all the effort going into rebranding around the new BBC Reith typeface, it rather looks like there are other design basics that Auntie could do with addressing.
