Editorial services

BBR offers proofreading, copy-editing, structural editing and fact-checking across most areas of the arts, humanities and social sciences.

Our UK-based editorial staff are educated to degree level or higher, and work from first principles of clarity, consistency and balance.

Combine our editorial services with book design and production for full project management all the way from typescript to finished book.

I wanted to say what a pleasure it has been to work with you. I don’t think I’ve ever known such a smooth and easy proofing process. Several of the contributing authors have said the same. And the pages look great!

Andrew Popp, co-editor

We also need to thank […] most particularly, Chris Reed and Amanda Thompson of BBR for doing what they do so extraordinarily well. Their expert advice and meticulous eye for detail, both during the writing of the manuscript and in the design and production of the book, has been invaluable. The book has benefited greatly from all of their work.

Using technology for optimum accuracy and transparency

Before a traditional read-through takes place, we run spellcheck and editing prep scripts to highlight potential problems. These range from the mundane (such as space missing after punctuation) through to predictable errors in more than 2,000 common words, compounds and phrases, making it straightforward to work through the text to fix what’s necessary. The scripts are sensitive to UK and US English as appropriate, and provide for publisher-specific style preferences and vocab checklists.

When the work is complete, a detailed before/after report via BBR TextCompare provides a character-level audit trail for all on-screen edits:

Current and recent subject areas include:

Economic, social, political and business history

Business and sustainability

Hispanic studies (in English and Spanish)

Ornithology

Travel
