This in-depth natural history of the Red Kite by Ian Carter, illustrated by wildlife artist Dan Powell, came to us with a sample chapter already roughed out by the publisher.
From that starting point, we designed and laid out the rest of the book, making sure that illustrations were placed with the associated text, but also in such a way as to showcase Dan’s paintings and notebook sketches. Double-page spreads with full bleed make a bold statement, while pencil roughs close chapters neatly but informally.
The bibliography, index and other back back matter were then designed as a group to ensure an even working of 16.
